When Maison Margiela and Reebok debuted the “Classic Leather Tabi” in January 2021, we received our first glimpse of a fusion incorporating the signature split-toe shape of the Maison Margiela “Tabi” shoe (launched in 1988) and the familiar style of the Reebok “Classic Leather” running shoe (launched in 1983). On June 18, the Maison Margiela x Reebok “Classic Leather Tabi High” will arrive in four colorways, marking an organic extension of the collaborative partnership between the French luxury fashion house and the British-American footwear and clothing company. Inspired by the memory of gladiator sandals, John Gallianio, Maison Margiela Creative Director, conceptualized the latest version of the shoe constructed from nappa leather with an EVA outsole and featuring two signature elements: toe splits (a nod to the Maison Margiela “Tabi”) and exposed panels at the collar and midfoot. The black and white Bianchetto is the most distinct (and expensive) colorway set to release, as its hand-painted upper conveys a worn and faded aesthetic. The three tonal iterations are comprised of black, white and red colorways.
